逆転したオフィオライト Overturned Ophiolite


1997年夏にサハリン最北端シュミット半島エリザベス岬付近(口絵参照)において,地質調査が行われた.ここでは,海岸線約1.5kmにわたって逆転したオフィオライトがナップ状に露出している.また,オフィオライトの構造的下位に強い変形を被った白亜系が観察された.
写真はオフィオライト下部露頭である.スケールとしての人に注意.調査を南に進めるに従って,玄武岩角礫岩層,赤色泥岩層,玄武岩質砕屑岩からなるタービダイト層が上位から下位に向かって観察された.これらは,先の白亜系堆積物の構造的上位であり低角衝上断層の上に位置している.
