| ネパールヒマラヤでトレッカーの荷物を運ぶヤク | |

Yaks Carry Camping Equipment for Trekkers in the Khumbu Himal, Nepal ネパールヒマラヤのエベレスト（サガルマータ）峰南面のクンブ氷河の下流にある側堆石堤（モレーン）をくだってゆくとヤクの群が上がってきた．背にはトレッカー達のキャンプ用品や食料を載せている．よく見ると，大部分はヤクとウシの混血であるゾプキョであった．ヒマラヤの高峰を巡るトレッキングは世界中の観光客を集めるほど人気があるが，ネパールの政治情勢が不安定なため，唯一安全なエベレスト山麓に大部分のトレッカーが集中する．そのため環境悪化などの問題を生んでいる．背後のピークはアマダブラム（6856m）．今立っている堆石堤は2万年前に形成されたことが光ルミネッサンス年代測定や宇宙線照射年代測定によってあきらかになった． |
